The swordsmen from Corvis’s guard rushed to the sound of Ida’s cry. Uthar and Mahra hurried after them.
“What a disgrace…” the alchemist clenched his fists. “With each stellar cycle, the chthonic forest increasingly defiles humankind!”
“Now, now, Master Uthar,” Corvis raised his hand in a conciliatory gesture. “Don’t lose your composure. What frightens you here is commonplace for those who suffer. I see nothing… oh, Emperor! What is this?!”
Ichor came alive! The bluish substance enveloped the leg of the nearest swordsman and pulled him into the pile of human remains.
“Aaaah! It burns! It burns! It’s… inside me! I’m melting! Melting! Decay… death… will… the doom of mankind! Aaaah!” – the human voice turned into a monstrous roar. “Flesh… is changing!”

It subsided briefly, calmed down, but only to soon bulge and begin to form something new. Before the horrified warriors and stunned Uthar, an unknown creature was born as if from clay. Human meat became its foundation, and skin served as its garment. But it did not frighten or repel with ugliness. Rather, on the contrary. It charmed and lured with its mystery, chilling calmness, otherworldly beauty.
“Who are you…” Master Uthar could only whisper.
