They probably want to attract teenagers with this design...

I don't know if that's really the case, but it seems to me that they're just drawing as best they can. In my opinion, there's no age group that has a preference for the chosen style of "slightly caricatured, cartoonish realism." Teenagers either like cartoons, anime, or, conversely, brutalism with gore. However, the drawings are unlikely to cause rejection either; it's just a style, but it's also unlikely to deeply resonate with anyone. They're just... neutral.
