Seeing Saki's gaze, the Knight and the Siren exchanged glances.
– You haven't even heard of the Academy of Beauty, Body, and Manners? How awful... how is that possible in our time... – the girl covered her mouth with her hand in amazement.
– I think she hasn't heard anything we said...
– But... but... that's impossible! Eastern Aldryk has a decent level of education!
Some time passed. The road seemed endless... And then... then, around the bend, the path of the Brown Banner was blocked by riders in completely different armor and with different insignia. There were many more of them, and the unknown army was led by a gray-haired old man in full heavy armor, whose combat experience and the number of hardships he had endured definitely exceeded those of ordinary soldiers.
Remar Vuln flinched in surprise; whispers of disbelief ran through his detachment, followed by fear.
– That's Governor Getronir Tirsell! And his elite cavalry! We are doomed!
– Captain Remar Vuln, I presume, – exclaimed the old man, – you don't have much time left to live. In the name of the goddess Ceraria, I will put an end to you! For all the sins and crimes against the kingdom of Celia-Mira!
– To battle, brothers! Let's capture the governor – and Osgholn Ron will never doubt us again! For revenge! For the Brown Banner! – Remar shouted in response and rushed into battle, drawing "The Empress's Will" from its scabbard.
The knights echoed his cry. But their zeal was immediately dampened by a blinding flash of lightning that struck from the sky and killed three cavalrymen and their horses on the spot. A soft rustling of leaves was heard. Someone was rushing straight along the treetops, casting spells of the Air school on the move.
– I have come to help, Governor Tirsell! – another old man landed next to Getronir with a powerful jump: this time, a mage.
– Glad to meet you, Master Renis, – the governor chuckled, – let's kill them together!
The Necromancer, to his credit, did not panic and immediately directed a bolt of death at his colleague, but the latter deflected it with such ease that the master of the undead immediately wished to disappear from the battlefield.
And then the slaughter began. No matter how good Captain Remar Vuln was in battle, his knights suffered a crushing defeat. They were overwhelmed in numbers, magic, and morale. Soon, panic appeared on the face of the seemingly unwavering warrior. He was caught off guard, with no chance of victory. Perhaps the reason was the spell of lightness, which hid all traces and sounds of Governor Tirsell's cavalry detachment.
– Retreat! Retreat! – Remar shouted, raising his hand to the sky, – Lady, help me...
And the Lady answered his call...
Suddenly, a loud, feminine laugh shook the area, stopping the battle and leaving both sides in deep confusion. And then, high above the heads of the warriors, a funnel opened, from which a graceful, but truly enormous female hand appeared, which immediately reached for Governor Tirsell.
– Scatter! Get away from this hand! – Master Renis now screamed in panic. He tried to destroy the hand with lightning, but it did no harm.
The governor, however, stood as if rooted to the spot, gazing in fascination at the unknown magic, but he was managed to be teleported out of the danger zone at the last moment. A moment later, the hand touched the ground, and a huge explosion of soft lilac flame turned this part of the road inside out. The blow fell on Tirsell's side, and more than ten glorious warriors of the kingdom left this cruel world.
– What kind of trickery is this? – the governor cursed.
– I... I don't know... I've never seen anything like it before, – Master Renis replied guiltily.
While the army of Ceraria's loyalists realized what had happened, Captain Remar Vuln and the few surviving knights of the Brown Banner fled into the forest. The knight in the helmet and trousers carried Saki, while the other carried the Siren, who was clearly unhappy about missing the chance to escape from the renegades. The necromancer also managed to survive.
– That was a beautiful explosion, wasn't it? – a melodic female voice suddenly sounded in Saki's head.
"HERETIC!" – a very unpleasant thought flashed through her mind.
P.S. We will have our own Rynse, with a less harsh color and an army of male misogynists.
