Kreg runs his fingers over the dragon hide and examines it closely.
- This will be quite worthy, but only if you have enough spirit and skill. - He slaps her on the back with a heavy palm. - Dare, young one.
Erefir Linel Darvening quickly changed into a work apron so as not to spoil her precious dress with sparks, and hummed a tune whose lyrics she didn't remember from the past world (but may it help her in her task):
The dragon hide had already undergone primary processing, which naturally took time: soaked in alkali, fleshed, but that was only the beginning. The thick and dense dragon skin needed to be split into as thin parts as possible — the upper layer with scales and the lower one: different layers would be needed for different parts of the shoes. Then it needed to be softened, then after the alkali came acid, then tanning with chromium salts... At that point the leather turned somewhat bluish, but that wasn't the desired result, so the smith neutralized its color, and then -- dyeing...
A dangerous stage requiring a small experiment with a tiny piece. Erefir decided to use crushed gemstones as a dye to achieve a light shimmering color with a slight chameleon property: the shoes should perfectly match any outfit.
Oiling to make them soft. Quick-drying with hot air, of which there was plenty in the forge. Applying lacquer. And crafting from all of this (plus necessary inserts from other materials) the finished product... Despite the thousandfold density of the material (which, admittedly, added difficulty at every stage), the finished item turned out light and ultra-durable; despite their fragile appearance, one could wear such shoes even to war (though hardly necessary), and the magical properties of the dragon multiplied by the crushed gemstones should particularly appeal to the future owner.
-- It seems the membranes made good butterfly wings, -- Erefir noted with satisfaction.
Reconnaissance in Kamimori also revealed something -- regarding Princess Ayano. She clearly possessed special spiritual powers and understanding, managed to create a special harmonious place, held strong convictions, and there was an additional feeling that she didn't shy away from danger. Well, so be it, her tender hands won't mind reliable gloves.
Also made from leather, albeit ordinary, but using similar technology, a light and beautiful item is crafted so the princess feels confident in any situation — in them she could hold a katana, remove curses, or do anything without fear.
