They wanted me to memorize poems and know the difference between classicism and romanticism, they taught me etiquette in all its complexity, and they also approved of my own small creative endeavors, but they didn't push me towards them. The idea was to become a "bright mind" who would make a good match for some nobleman. It's not such a bad strategy in general, but when enemies destroy your estate and take all the survivors captive, it fails, unfortunately.)
