Upon returning to Carneol, Garret reassures Erephir and the others, telling them he is alright. He goes to his room and spends a long time reflecting on what happened to him in the church. He needed time to process everything.

"But you were supposed to buy a newspaper," Erephir didn't say, nor did she think it, but she simply hugged him and let him go to contemplate. Garret's state was clear without words; it seemed that, of their team, only Kripp was truly fond of him.
