Varya considered commenting on Futaba’s speech but ultimately decided against it. Overall, she liked it, but she felt that for a neighbor, the position on duels was more principled, which is why she decided to compromise on the “optionality” rather than the format itself, after the discussion that arose following Varya’s speech. Varya herself thought that it would be better to take into account the students’ wishes and come up with more new options for combat competitions, whether it be separate shooting duels and separate close combat, team disciplines, and so on. Varya didn’t want to somehow undermine or discredit Futaba’s quite reasonable campaign by focusing on this point.
