I'm curious, does the author even play their own creation?
I started playing on Hero difficulty. I chose the Elves (hero Vinrael) and lost immediately to the first enemy hero.
I started a new game with Humans (Laslo). The result was the same.
I got tired of torturing myself on Hero difficulty and, skipping Veteran, I started playing on Warrior difficulty. I played with the same Laslo, but didn't have much success. I managed to defeat the first three heroes, but couldn't handle the fourth.
And again, I started a new game. This time, I chose Orcs (Haggish). I haven't lost yet, but it's heading that way. I successfully defended against enemies for 6 in-game months. I don't even want to count how many heroes I defeated. Battles happened quite often. But then came the moment when I couldn't defeat an enemy Orc because of his Horde Fury. They have a huge crowd, and with one volley, he wipes out any of my units, and I have nothing to counter it with; I was given a terrible Chief's Command and War Cry.
I started running away from him, luckily I had Logistics skill already. At the moment, there are a whole bunch of these heroes, but the problem isn't them; the problem is that I can't build a shipyard (as I understand it, I need to reach the Crystal by sea), but it requires some workers, and I can't find them even though I've explored the entire map. Either I'm an idiot, or there's a bug.
P.S. It's annoying that you can't take artifacts from enemy heroes after winning. One jerk took an artifact on his way to my castle, which I had my eye on, but hadn't had time to pick up yet. I thought, "It's okay, I'll take the artifact when I kill him," but no such luck. And for some reason, the Silent Pursuit ability doesn't work against enemy heroes. I can't check their inventory.
