— This painting depicts Ruprecht Rivelstein, the founder of this dynasty. Like many other influential aristocratic families of our time, the Rivelstein family emerged during the liberation of the territories of Serberia from the northern invaders—the Sylvarians. Ruprecht, who at that time did not yet have a family name, was one of the many allies of the future founder and king of Serberia, Artorius der Grosse. In history, Ruprecht is primarily known as an unparalleled warrior and a charismatic leader, but it is less known that he was a cruel man who demanded absolute obedience from those around him, whether they were family members, vassals, or servants. The only person who held authority in his eyes was King Artorius. According to his contemporaries, Ruprecht did not understand humor and did not tolerate familiarity in communication, and he was always ready to behead anyone who did not show due respect to him or his land. The way he raised his sons is well conveyed in one of his most popular sayings: "You can experience the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The choice is yours." His daughters, in turn, were raised to uphold the family's honor when they were married, and they generally did not experience paternal love. Overall, Ruprecht was seen as a rough warrior, but he also had more refined interests—a love for painting and gardening, which he shared with his wife, Elfrida Rivelstein, who painted this portrait.
