The girls told Gulveig to close her eyes and count to one hundred, after which they ran off somewhere towards Baldr.

They couldn't have run too far after counting to one hundred, so Gulveig decided to start searching from the east. Quickly surveying the area around the estate itself (just in case the little tricksters were hiding right here, behind a tree or something), Gulveig ran towards the pond.
She's trying to run, just in case, so that while she's moving between locations, the girls run further and hide better.
