Might & Magic: Heroes 5.5 is an unofficial large-scale expansion for HOMM5: Tribes of the East or HOMM5 Complete that significantly expands the game and makes it deeper, more complex, and more varied. The mod adds new adventure map objects, larger battlefields, new heroes, classes, specializations, skills, artifacts, spells, HD textures, and a greatly improved random map generator.

One of the main advantages of MMH5.5 is the reworked RMG with more than 60 visualized templates. It can create both balanced PvP maps and huge XXXL maps for single-player games with hundreds of epic battles. Neutral armies have become stronger and more diverse thanks to 480 additional mixed squad templates, and map zones are better divided into early, mid, and late game stages.

The mod adds about 30 new adventure map objects. Treasure vaults and dungeons have received unique interiors, larger battlefields, new obstacles, scaling armies, and dynamic rewards. The composition of enemies and prizes no longer repeats identically: the system is inspired by Oblivion/Skyrim and scales to the player's strength. Rewards may include not only gold and resources, but also artifacts, spells, scrolls, wands, prisoners, and small permanent skill bonuses.

MMH5.5 adds 103 new artifacts, including 12 new ultimate items. The artifact system has become noticeably richer, and "smart" items in the backpack actually expand the number of useful slots to the level of Heroes 3/4.

The class and magic systems have also been seriously reworked. The game now features 24 classes, each with in-game skill trees and 8 variants of secondary skills. Each faction now has 18 heroes, 6 heroes per class, with high-quality portraits in the style of Ashan. The maximum level has been raised to 40, and new skills, specializations, and the spell system make hero development more flexible and meaningful.

MMH5.5 uses the fast reworked AI file H5_AI31j.exe from Quantomas. The AI has become smarter and faster, especially on large maps. A new 64-bit exe file is also provided, which uses more memory and helps reduce performance issues and crashes on XL maps.

The mod's balance has been improved over the years based on mathematical analysis and PvP matches. Known exploits have been fixed, hero specializations have become more competitive, and alternative creature upgrades differ from each other while remaining useful.

Additionally, the mod supports old campaigns and single-player maps from H5/HOF, and also includes optional features: an advanced Town Portal in the style of Heroes 3, town management through governors, town conversion, and dwellings.
