Cosplay isn't just combining things you usually wear with anime merchandise. If you put on an item from some anime that you bought for a lot of money in an anime store, that's not cosplay yet. Do you want to cosplay? Then give yourself to it wholeheartedly, without reservation, to recreate what you saw on the screen. Don't just wear things that resemble the clothes of an anime character. Either all or nothing. And yes, everything has its place, and cosplay does too (they might not understand you at school).
