If you don't play with microscopic armies (6-month-olds) or on low levels, the Demon is no worse than other creatures; it's the damage and chaos mages that are weaker, and their crowd-control spells are useless. And why remove the ring and staff? Sticks and scrolls can sometimes be useful, especially if they have Phantom or Berserk, and if there aren't any in the guild or library. They simply changed the spell when they were transferred, so you could technically not take them into the hero, but also not give new ones in the shield/weapon slot, provided that the original artifact was a stick or scroll.

And it would make sense to bring back the Orc's "Wrath of the Horde" ability, as it suffers greatly from its absence in interfaction battles. There's nothing to counter Berserk, Subjugation, Divine Intervention, or Phantom.
