Are you talking about those people who go hunting, kill an animal, and then don't throw the carcass in the trash or send it to be processed into fur, but instead eat it properly? I don't see anything strange about that.
The fish you catch is not the same as the herring in the nearest store; it's a completely different taste experience. I suspect the same is true for game. The satisfaction of the hunter's instinct is also important, I agree, but you only get maximum pleasure when you consume what you've caught. You need to go through the whole process.
