Based on appearance:
Heroes 1: I played for 5 minutes.
Heroes 2: I don't like any of the creatures there, but please don't judge me.
Heroes 3: I like almost all the creatures. I'm not a big fan of Phoenixes: they look like yellow-beaked chicks. I especially like Azure Dragons (of course!), Golden Dragons, Archmages, Thought Elementals, and Ifrits.
Heroes 4: Gargantuars were okay, and Dragon Golems were original. I'm mostly neutral or have a negative opinion about the rest.
Heroes 5: I liked the chubby peasants, chubby zombies, chubby minotaurs, the ghosts are original, Ents, and angels are good: they're so light and airy (if only their swords were a little smaller). Dragons are also not bad (everyone complains that they're emaciated, but I think that's good. At least it's believable that they can fly), and so are Druids. The "stools" look stupid. I don't really like the Yeti unit (just because it wasn't made), or the Gloom Witches.
Heroes 1: +
Heroes 2: +
Heroes 3: Overall +, but I should have paid more attention to Pegasi... It's a shame that they're the worst units in Rampart in terms of gameplay.
Behemoths look stupid, objectively speaking. As do many of the humanoid units of the Citadel.
Vampires look like junkies.
Six-legged Basilisks are strange.
All sorts of animals are good, like Rocs, Hydras, and Serpent Riders.
Heroes 4: Well, yes, it's quite the zoo. The graphics aren't very good, and as a result, the units aren't either.
Heroes 5: Angels are cute, oh yes. Well, and Nymphs, I guess. The rest aren't necessary, as they're often good on their own, but they get lost in the background.
Heroes 6: Most of the creatures in this part are distinguished by their particular extravagance and lack of taste. Especially the upgrades. Relatively good are all sorts of elementals, Luminaries, and I also liked all the Naga creatures. Decent Orcs, especially the basic ones, but nothing more. I didn't see much of the Dark Elves, I didn't buy the expansion. Phoenix is cool.
The worst are all the Inferno creatures, as well as some of the Necropolis creatures (Weavers, Ghouls, Liches). It's not comparable to how elegant and stylish these factions were in Heroes 5, even though I don't like them, but when casting Pit Lords, the fiery orbs inside made something stir within me. But here... Well, they're just ugly, and you don't feel any fear, euphoria, or desire to fight them, only "what a monstrosity, please remove it."
Heroes 7: Overall, this part is what Heroes 6 should have looked like at release. Before the release of the day-one patch, which fixed a bunch of critical bugs :D This also applies to the creatures. Most of them are quite good, although I don't have many favorites. Perhaps the Academics are good with their interpretation of Djinns and Titans, the Death Riders of Necropolis are great, the Orcs have beautifully designed Behemoths, and the Dark Dragons and Minotaurs of the League. I didn't have time to evaluate the Dwarves.
