I solved this problem at the root – my sketches are as awful as physically possible.
If I were drawing this scene, I would do the opposite: show noble knights in shining armor marching to fight chthonic monsters. One has a huge, bloody trunk, and the other monster is covered in something and tangled in ropes. And one of the knights shouts, "Hurry, my trap won't hold it for long!" Unfortunately, the warriors were not destined to survive that day; they died fighting so that humanity could sleep peacefully at night (without buzzing in their ears).
