Well, I don't know... It all depends on the situation. You can move not everyone, but only those you really don't want to lose. After all, an air strike is really powerful (but I repeat, griffons are not as useful anymore, especially the regular ones).
And sometimes the archers have nowhere to run, they are protected on all sides by other creatures. ;)
