On Albert's corpse, an interested person could find a note.
"Greetings. If you are reading this, then things have somehow gone badly for the "Iron Hearts." Perhaps even so badly that this is being read not by a member of the "Iron Hearts," but by one of Sharron's people. In fact, this message is intended for this highly unlikely scenario, because decency obliges me to consider everything. I will tell my fellow mercenaries in person everything that I wanted to say before the battle.
If you are reading this and you work for Sharron, please pass this message or its contents on to him.
The act we committed, the attack on the head of the Sun Clan, an excellent employer for us, may seem not only vile but also very strange and inconsistent. Especially since, as far as I can tell, Sharron is the only reliably trustworthy employer in all of Heckel. However, we were forced to do so due to circumstances.
The White Mist Clan used its special weapon against us, the so-called Arkhé fruit (perhaps not its real name). These fruits initially have a strong positive effect on improving health, excellent masking of all side effects, and a long (several days) incubation period for the fungal disease they carry. Unfortunately, some of us were poisoned by these fruits and will soon die. Taking advantage of this situation, the Mist offered us a cure in exchange for our involuntary cooperation.
I do not trust the Mist Clan. As a merchant and businessman, I see that the reputation of this clan is absolutely worthless, and the motives... let's just say they are murky. They use deception where they could act honestly, they use strange and, in my opinion, unworkable schemes, so I cannot imagine that they would actually provide us with a cure if we succeed. However, this is just my personal opinion. Unfortunately, I am not the only one poisoned in the squad, and I cannot act against the will of the others, whose situation is no better than mine. I also cannot abandon my promise to take care of one of the fresh recruits, Tyril, who is also poisoned and will die if we do not make the right decision, whatever it may be. In any case, the decision is not mine; I am not a leader, or even an advisor, in the organization, although I sometimes try to be.
The decision was made to agree to the Mist's ultimatum and attack Sharron's palace, using the tunnel dug by the Mist. It is assumed that the real Sharron will be replaced by a Mist operative wearing a mask. The substitution should also be facilitated by the unrest in the city, which the Mist has arranged – as they see it.
This is the main constructive information that Sharron should receive in case of our failure. Let him be prepared for further strange plans and sabotage; the Mist has seriously decided to take care of this war and the Sun Clan. I am including this in the note because I have some personal, albeit distant, sympathy for this man – with whom it is really possible to do business, which is worth a lot in our world, where honor and nobility, business acumen, and reputation are usually just empty words.
The second important part of the letter is that Charn and his gang have been completely eliminated; we managed to complete this part of the assignment. I hope this will help the Sun Clan in the war.
Sincerely, Albert, born Fazer, member of the "Iron Hearts."
