Given the unfinished nature of a specific project for this map, I also considered this topic. Everything suggests that this battle was mandatory, but when BioBob thought it might be quite harsh, he modified the map, removing the pillar on the Crystal Dragon's location. For example, it's quite possible that the location with the Azure Dragon's hiding spot was not initially connected to the location with the teapot, and a guard would have been placed on the path to the Azure Dragon's location, requiring the Crystal Dragon (which, in turn, might have required killing the last Red hero). Or perhaps through a couple of other methods; in reality, there aren't that many options.
