Well, player characters, compared to the standard "militia," turn out to be like terminators. Except for those that aren't initially combat-oriented.
Another question is that on the other side, there can also be all sorts of horrors. Especially mages are scary... Without a disabling spell against them, it would be better to just have a duel!
