It’s quite simple to implement different mechanics for online and offline play. It might seem difficult, and in some ways, it is. At the very least, offline progression (of heroes, castles) should be slower. But we can remember that something similar already exists. In Heroes of Might and Magic V, you can use a script to change the rate at which heroes gain experience, for example. In any part of the series, there are campaigns – a mechanism for increasing the length of a game, in a literal sense. In general, the task is difficult, but solvable.
