the sword needs a 6-PP commander so that there's something to play on the curve after Gawain.

That's true, three months ago, such a commander wouldn't have been out of place. Maybe then, at the time of Gawain's release, he wouldn't have been... quite so 100% useless.
But that was then, and now it's too late anyway. Although, I did have a thought that it would be nice if Gawain could reduce the cost of various new 3-PP commanders, but I guess that's not a very good use for him.
And this card is very similar in mechanics to Aurelia. And visually, it looks like a sister card. But I think it will be used.
