Here's another idea. There's a chance that the destruction itself isn't dangerous, but the debris could cause harm. In that case, if the destruction isn't uniform, we should first hide under more robust structures (arches). Then, after everything that could fall outside the arches has already collapsed, we jump into the empty space, before the arches themselves collapse. It would be amusing to repeat Alex's fate.
