That's interesting, I had the opposite situation – they diagnosed me with bronchitis, but it was just a common cold. Despite having a bad stomach, they prescribed strong antibiotics. I didn't take them and got better in a couple of days.
I also practice self-treatment during the flu. Luckily, over the years, you gain a lot of experience and start to feel your body. Although it still depends on your immune system, of course. Plus, if you suspect pneumonia (or sinusitis), it can be dangerous.
