It's not even about the lore as a plot/legend; for example, I don't care about Might & Magic (non-Heroes) and Dark Messiah, but there should be some overall coherence and logical consistency in the game world, its atmosphere, and visual style – from the perspective of this specific game (and not 6 or 7 parts).
"Oversun"
The swamp faction differs significantly from the Naga Sanctuary in terms of culture, worldview, combat style, and unit roster (although, these are all lizard people).
If we ignore part 6, I believe that it is quite possible to combine the Naga and some of the swamp units, and not necessarily in a swamp setting. In part 6, I didn't really like the implementation of the Naga. Maybe it's because I expected to see familiar units from the third game there, and not mythical human-sharks, frogs, and water elementals, or rather, spirits. But in reality, it doesn't matter; even if they aren't combined, the point is that adding the Naga or swamp creatures is the most logical move.
