Generally, in my opinion, the strength of the races is:
1. Necros
2. Dwarves
3. the rest

Depending on the levels of development, Dark Elves will beat Necros in the mid-game; they'll take a lucky Wizard, skilled Chaos, and Arcane Wave.
In the long game, Humans and Elves will beat Necros; Demons and Academics are also dangerous, and of course, Dwarves.
But Dwarves are easy to tear down in the early stages by any race. The main thing is not to let them reach building Arkat priests, Thanes, and Jarls.

And in a duel, there's simply no equal to Dwarves (even Necros take a back seat)

Yes, it's hard to duel them; the female Dwarf with bears can be taken down by Ora, Deleb, and Ossir; same for the male Dwarf—Deleb hits him, and Ossir will bring Helmar down. There are other heroes too, but it will be very tough with them.
