Regarding the games: just the other day, I was walking down the street with some friends, and we were joking about ziggurats. A girl overheard us and actually understood the joke, and even continued the conversation on the same topic... And Kosha is a good example.
So, yes, games with themes of masculinity/femininity are likely unrelated. Or, at least, there's a weak connection.
