The old, good emperor departed to the gods, leaving no heir. The remaining rulers, corrupt officials, and generals began to fight for power, some with swords and others with intrigues, paralyzing any movement within the empire's borders. But none of them are destined to take the throne. Eight influential families, the Clans of the empire, enter the battle for the right to establish a new dynasty.
