Heroes of Might and Magic IV and its expansions use cheat codes that start with nwc. Many refer to myth and legend.[1][1][1] GameRevolution gives the same list for the Winds of War expansion.[1]
How to enter the codes
Press Tab during a game and type the code.[1][1][1][1] Some codes only work on a particular screen: battle codes on the battle screen, and nwcCityOfTroy in the town screen. Hero codes affect the hero in the first slot of the selected army. Creature codes need a free slot or a stack of the same creature.[1][1] A player who used cheats receives the “Cheater” rank at the end of the scenario.[1][1]
Cheat codes
| Code | Effect |
|---|---|
nwcValhalla | Win the scenario[1] |
nwcRagnarok | Lose the scenario |
nwcAres | Win the battle (on the battle screen) |
nwcAchilles | Lose the battle (on the battle screen) |
nwcGoSolo | The computer plays for you |
nwcPrometheus | Removes the fog of war; typing it again brings the fog back[1] |
nwcSphinx | Reveals the puzzle map |
nwcAmbrosia | Gives resources |
nwcHermes | A very large (but finite) movement allowance for the selected army this turn[1] |
nwcAthena | Lets the hero take any skill at any level |
nwcThoth | The hero gains a level |
nwcIsis | Learns all spells available to the hero's magic skills |
nwcSacrificeToTheGods | Maximum luck[1] |
nwcPan | Maximum morale[1] |
nwcCityOfTroy | Builds every building (in the town screen) |
nwcEtTuBrute | Artifact: Dagger of Despair |
nwcHephaestus | Artifact: Elven Chainmail[1] |
nwcNibelungenlied | Artifact; sources disagree: Ring of Greater Negation (the first post of our forum topic, GRY-Online) or Sword of the Gods (GameRevolution, a later forum post)[1][1] |
nwcAphrodite | Joke: the hero turns into a guitarist[1][1] |
nwcOldMan | Turns the selected hero into an old man and lowers his movement range by 4 (typed on the battle screen) |
Sources for the table: [1][1][1][1][1]
The effect of nwcExcalibur is disputed: different sources name a sword, the ring above, or a screenshot of the whole map saved to the game folder.[1][1][1]
Creature codes
These add a stack of the named creature to the army. No source states how many creatures each one gives.[1][1][1]

Cheat menu
Cheat sites list nwcImAGod as a code to type, but players on our forum found that typing it does nothing. Added to the shortcut as a launch parameter after the executable (for example ...heroes4.exe" nwcImAGod, without a slash), it adds cheat entries to the game's menus, both in windowed and in full-screen mode.[1][1][1][1]
