Might and Magic Tribute: Book of Ceth

Edit Summary: Hand-written Russian version.

Might and Magic Tribute: Book of Ceth (MMT, "M&M Tribute") is a fan-made freeware role-playing game in the spirit of the Might and Magic series, developed by fans around the Dutch fansite Castle Gobs[1][1]. It is not a mod or a remake but a separate game set in the Might and Magic universe[1]. The project began in July 2003; its last public build, 0.5, came out on 1 May 2009[1][1].

Setting and gameplay

  • The game is set on the island of Karigor, home of the Church of the Sun and the Church of the Moon, and starts in 1083 AS, 81 years before Might and Magic VI[1].
  • The player leads a party of up to five characters from six races — humans, elves, genies, trolls, vampires and ogres[1].
  • Characters start as an explorer or a student, each leading to two advanced classes and then to eight final ones[1].

History

  • Sir Felgar released the original tech demo in July 2003 to test whether a tribute game could be made[1]. Ribannah, who had founded Castle Gobs in 1999, joined the team on 19 July 2003[1][1].
  • On 1 February 2005, after Sir Felgar's long absence, the team chose Ribannah as project lead, and the project moved to Castle Gobs; on 19 February 2005 it switched to the RealmForge GDK engine[1]. Ribannah was also lead designer and lead programmer[1].
  • Versions 0.1 to 0.5 followed between 2005 and 2009[1][1]. In February 2009 work began on a 3D engine based on XNA[1].
  • In August 2011 Asomath, writing for the members of the Castle Gobs forum, said that contact with Ribannah had stopped in early May and set up a temporary forum for the project[1]. A January 2012 report described a move to a new site and a dialogue system rebuilt in the Unreal Development Kit (UDK)[1].
  • On 1 December 2012 the original site was marked "preserved for history"[1]. No later public release is known; Fandom describes the game as not updated since May 2009[1].
