Fanstratics was an independent fantasy strategy game by Gregory W. Fulton, lead designer of Heroes of Might and Magic III (The Restoration of Erathia, Armageddon's Blade and The Shadow of Death). It was a spiritual successor to Heroes III — not an official Might and Magic game: it used an original world and its own factions.
History
- Fulton first spoke of the project in 2018 and presented it publicly in July 2020, while it was in pre-alpha.
- He reported on it through regular newsletters — 45 in all — mostly showing sketches of units and design notes; no playable build was released.
- On 1 January 2025 he announced the end of development: serious health problems after COVID-19 made finishing the game unrealistic. He mentioned turning his recollections of making Heroes III into a memoir instead.
Announced design
- A Heroes III-like structure: an adventure map on a square grid and battles on a hex grid.
- Factions, heroes, troops, spells, skills, artifacts and map locations meant to be "familiar but different".
- For PC only, with a map editor.
