Heroes of Might and Magic Online

Edit Summary: TQ Digital's Chinese-market Heroes MMORPG (2008–2014): release, rules, closure; not the 2014 Might & Magic Heroes Online.

Heroes of Might and Magic Online was a free-to-play 2.5D MMORPG made for the Chinese market, developed by TQ Digital Entertainment and published by NetDragon Websoft under licence from Ubisoft.

History

  • Originally planned for late 2005; released on 30 May 2008.
  • An English version had a beta from 7 May to 9 June 2010 and launched on 11 June 2010, but was open only to Asian IP addresses.
  • Shut down on 31 March 2014.

How it played

  • Three layers: a shared MMORPG world, a strategic map and turn-based tactical battles on a grid, much like Heroes III.
  • Eight factions with 56 unit types in total, and four magic schools.
  • Set in the world of Heroes III (Erathia), with no storyline of its own; its events were not canon.

Not to be confused with Might & Magic Heroes Online, the 2014 international browser game, or with Might and Magic: Heroes Kingdoms.
