I usually play with Winamp running, and I haven't really paid attention to the music in the games. It seems like the music is decent in all the installments. In part 5, I liked the voice acting; Boyarsky as Godric is just amazing. I listened to all the dialogues in the campaigns.

I also really like the third game!

Because of the music in the swamp terrain, I wanted to buy myself an original disc of Heroes 2. The fact that digital music (without a disc) appeared in the patched version of Heroes 2 just isn't the same; but the soundtracks that could be played on home devices were simply super.
Which is basically what I did: I would start the swamp track (just over 2 minutes) and the sea travel track (about 3 minutes).
In short, the best music—the kind that truly amazed me from the first listen (maybe it's not worse now, but it's just not the same)—was in Heroes 2!
And in the first one, I didn't even really hear the music. But the sound effects were super! Especially when a lot of ghosts die (when they surround the hydra from all sides, and you bite them ALL at once! My speakers were choking! :) )
