The second option. Everything depends on how well you develop your Warlocks. If you max out their physical skills like "Attack," they can become quite formidable warriors. Examples in online maps: Sorgall, Kifrah. If you choose Chaos magic and other magical skills (the progression is designed to allow for absolute mastery), you'll need to learn all or most of the spells; if you're lucky, you can obtain/buy the Tome of Chaos Magic. But learning the spells is worth it – skillful use turns the Warlock into a machine of destruction. The most successful heroes in online maps in this regard are: Erin, Sinithar, Vaishan, Iranna.
