I apologize in advance if this question has already been asked. It probably has, but I couldn't find it. Could you please tell me how the appearance of units can be changed in Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East? I've downloaded some textures that have already been modified by someone else, and I liked them. But I would like to change a few more. How can I do that? What programs are needed for this? Part of the message is indeed broken there and cannot be restored, but the general idea should be clear.
In short, you need to unpack data.pak using any archiver (like for a ZIP file) and extract the textures in DDS format from it. DDS is a graphics format; use Paint.NET, Photoshop with a plugin, or something else.
Then repack them into a ZIP archive while preserving the folder structure, and give it the extension .h5u. Place it in UserMODs.
