The reason might be that you didn't install the game properly, but simply copied it. Or, perhaps you reinstalled the operating system without formatting, preserving all the data. In short, the game isn't properly installed on this system.

I think I've found the reason... I didn't install it from the disc; I downloaded it first. It's likely that the game is cracked or has a StarForce bypass from Buku. How can I remove it?

Um... did you download the game or the disk image? If the former, you need to install the game, in other words, go through the installation process. If the latter, I don't know what to advise you, and discussing pirated software is prohibited on the forum.

By the way, why do you need 2.0? There's 3.0 (official) and 3.51 (and soon 3.6). 3.51 is the fan-made Equilibris add-on, which is universally recognized in the Heroes community and, in most cases, introduces quite useful adjustments to the game.
