Cities in Might & Magic: Heroes Online

Greetings, Heroes!

As in other games in the Might & Magic: Heroes series, cities are key elements for recruiting new troops. And, as in previous games in the series, in Heroes Online you will be able to build and develop several cities at once.

There are three possible paths for city development. You can build a city specializing in recruiting troops, collecting and extracting new resources, or combine these paths.

Whatever development path you choose, you should not forget that you need housing for your creatures and building rights; otherwise, you may run out of troops and there will be no place where you can recruit reinforcements.

First Steps
You will receive your first troops from the ruler of your Faction. But, as soon as you fight your first battles and complete a few quests, you will need reinforcements for your army.

Cities are represented on the province map as gates. After you click on the gates with the left mouse button, a window will open where you can view your city. If you have not yet founded a city, a window will open, prompting you to enter the name of the new city and then found it.

The number of free slots for buildings is limited by the level of the town hall in that city. You have 1 free slot in a new city. You can upgrade the town hall to open new building slots.

A new city already has 3 buildings: creature dwelling, town hall, and garrison.

Building a New Building
The following conditions must be met to build a new building:
- Your hero must be of a certain level or higher;
- You must have all the necessary resources;
- The town hall in your city must be of a certain level or higher;
- You must have a free slot;
- You must have building rights.

Actions in Heroes Online take place in real time, so it will take some time for the construction to be completed. If you build a dwelling with creatures, its storage will be filled with fresh troops, and after the construction is completed, you will be able to recruit them immediately.

If you build a worker's hall, you should look at the map and find a person extracting the necessary resource. At this point, the mine may be under attack, and to collect resources from it, you will need to free it. You should periodically check these mines, as they may be attacked again.

All buildings except the town hall and garrison can be demolished. You can do this to free up slots for new buildings or to change the city's development path.

Improvements
Each building in a city can be upgraded, and you should not forget about this. While the goal of upgrading the town hall is to get new building slots and new creature dwellings, upgrading the dwellings and worker's halls themselves will increase their maximum capacity and replenishment rate. In addition, this will reduce the recruitment time for new squads.

Buildings
As mentioned earlier, there are several types of buildings that you can build in your city.

Dwellings
You can recruit new squads in them. Each type of troop requires its own dwelling. Since you will not always be able to build all types of dwellings in one city, you will have to choose which troops will be recruited in it. Recruiting troops takes time, and their maximum number is limited. If you want to create a huge army, you need to regularly recruit available squads. Upgrading will increase the capacity of the dwelling and reduce the preparation time for new troops.

Worker's Halls
These buildings collect gold, metal, or wood from the province in which the city is located. People watching over the mines can be attacked by monsters, and you will need to free them. It will not be possible to completely secure the mines, so it is better to check them periodically. The resource extraction time and the capacity of the hall depend on its level. You need to upgrade the worker's hall if you cannot collect the extracted resources often, but you also do not want the building to be idle.

Town Hall
Your town hall controls the size of the city. Building any building requires a certain level of town hall. Upgrading the town hall will open new slots for building buildings. The level of the town hall also determines how much the other buildings in the city can be upgraded. And last but not least, the town hall also brings gold to your treasury, and this increase does not depend on the gold mine in the province.

Garrison
Sometimes there are situations in which you need to change the composition of your army. You can send your troops to the garrison and store them there for later use. The garrison has 6 slots for squads, limited in capacity. You can upgrade the garrison so that more warriors fit in the cell.

As your city grows, its appearance will also change - from a small village to a large city. You can click on any building in the city window, and a window for managing that building will open.

Your city cannot be attacked by monsters or other players, but this does not mean that you do not need to take care of it. Your worker's halls may be attacked by monsters, and buildings will also stop producing anything after the warehouses are filled.

You will have the opportunity to build more than one city, but there is a limit - you cannot build more than one city in one province. As you discover new and new provinces, you can found new cities in them. Each city is built from scratch, which means that your cities are independent of each other.

As you can see, the game developers put a lot of effort into creating cities. Since the action in Heroes Online takes place in real time, they had to change and adjust the traditional city mechanics to meet all the needs in the game Might & Magic: Heroes Online.

What do you think about the cities in the game?
