Posts from Heroes of Might and Magic V: Black screen! Help!

When I try to launch the game, it doesn't start at all; I just get a black screen. Task Manager shows that it's not responding, and there are no error messages – just a black screen. I've checked the drivers, and they're fine. I've also tried manually changing the resolution (some forums suggested this might help), but it didn't work. Also, everything was working fine before, but after I reinstalled Windows, this started happening! I'm using Windows 7 x64 Home (pirated), and before that, I had the Ultimate version (also pirated). The installation disc is the same, but I don't think that's the problem. Can anyone help? Maybe someone knows what's going on!

Have you tried running it in XP compatibility mode? In general, pirated versions of Windows can be quite unpredictable. And yes, Home Edition 7 seems to differ from Professional Edition in some aspects, particularly in terms of compatibility with older versions.
