Why isn't Ubuntu being considered? It seems like the simplest option.

If you're using Ubuntu (with Unity), then it's understandable why. Kubuntu – KDE in Ubuntu – is unbearable compared to other Linux distributions, like Debian, simply because there's no delay in the mouse reaction in the main menu. This is irritating, and KDE in Ubuntu is just plain awful. Gubuntu – the third GNOME – is roughly the same as Unity. It's hard to say which of these desktop environments is worse. LXDE might be an option, but I still couldn't install and configure everything I needed in Ubuntu, and it also has less mature package versions than Debian stable, let alone oldstable. And in general, if you have to choose between Debian and any distribution based on it, even through other Linux distributions, then Debian is definitely the better choice.

"Windows suits me just fine." - Linux is just pretentious and a hassle with Gnutella. So, to hell with it. XP rules!

Well, regarding my attitude towards Unix systems. It's a rather debatable question whether to install them on a home PC. And why? Most games and applications simply won't run. It's a different story if I were a system administrator, say, for a network of some provider. Then it's a different matter; it's necessary to make the most of the hardware.

I don't feel like trying Linux because I'm quite happy with Windows. In 5 years of work, not a single client has even asked me to install Linux for them (I'm a computer technician).

Because the vast majority of people who might think, "Hmm, should I install Linux?", are perfectly capable of doing it themselves.

Recently, out of curiosity, I wanted to download CGMiner for Windows and, no joke, I couldn't find the latest version! Then I entered the query in a search engine, went to their forum, and, yes, they stopped compiling it for Windows. There's a package for Linux, but not for Windows. That's how it is!
