I wish all forum members to get rid of their gambling addiction, despite the desires of their ego and larvae (those who know will understand). This is exactly the case because the subconscious does not have a classic concept of time and reality; here is the mechanism of addiction.
I am surprised by how much time and how many opportunities I WASTED on games. When I was in college, I simply didn't notice it. This is not Hearthstone, where you do a daily quest and you're free. My games lasted 5-10 hours. Just imagine: 8 hours for sleep and 8 hours for Heroes!
You can play Heroes if you have nothing else to do, but if you have dreams and goals in real life, then Heroes, like other games, are not for you. I did some simple calculations about what would happen if I spent at least a couple of hours a day working on realizing some of my dreams for a couple of years (for example, learning to play the guitar well). But, unfortunately, I spent that time on Heroes! That's some motivation!
Everyone has to grow up at some point; I'm glad I was able to do it and got rid of the addiction in a simple way.
I recently visited a friend (he's 5 years older than me); he lives in a rented apartment, there are naked children running around, he has problems like everyone else... But what struck me was that his only pleasure is beer and his computer! What about development and dreams, what about a weekend in Europe, when there are games! And I became scared, scared for myself, for the nation...
This message is, of course, for sane people, and those who are not against wasting (well, not even wasting, just sitting at the computer like furniture, with a satisfied face) their lives, please don't be distracted from taking first place in the next endless tournament. All the best!

I would play medium-sized maps, like M200, with a small size at most (I think larger sizes are only enjoyable when you take a two-hero approach on the first day for any Castle); and Heroes allows you to relax and exercise your brain – I can play a game, solve problems between turns (I'm a junior programmer), and then I'm in a great mood.
But if you're drawn to Heroes, then there's probably a problem somewhere else, because if you're truly invested in a game, it will consume you completely. As for your friend, it probably means he doesn't love his wife, because if you love someone, it's like living in a cloud, work becomes easier, and you're always happy to do something nice for your loved one. I sometimes don't want to play Heroes for a long time after a good game.

I can give you an example: I was expelled from university (I didn't manage to pass 3 subjects; they don't expel you for 2, but for 3 they do); I had an operation on my nose (nasal septum, I had trouble breathing, I got a good doctor through the military, and I had headaches, if it hadn't been for that, I would have been a constantly sleepy zombie). And do you think I started doing worse in my studies after being expelled? I started studying even more and harder. I always dreamed of being able to study all day, and God taught me how to do it!))

You just need to go where you're drawn to, and be honest with yourself (I didn't buy the necessary items, and that's why I got expelled), but after that, I became much stronger in terms of studying (I was also drawn to playing Heroes and other nonsense at the time), thank God he helped me. And now, after re-enrolling, I'll have my diploma in a month, but this kind of experience has developed me more than if I had stayed in university.

I can now communicate with professors on an equal footing, I tell them about what we have in terms of studies. I decided to learn programming (I really love mathematics), and a professor told me about Knuth's "The Art of Computer Programming" – it's a very famous book, and I wouldn't have achieved what I have if I hadn't been expelled.

And beer and a computer are just a consequence, not the root cause (if you don't want to work, it means you're not in the right place; if you feel bad at home, it means you're not with the right person).

A game is just a tool (everyone gets what they want). And if you only play Heroes, you won't always want to play it, because it can be very tiring.
