Posts from The 3rd stage of the annual John Van Caneghem Tournament (2007).
No, we need to find a way to maintain consistency.
I'd like to know from Fireball how to defeat 260 HP on the eighth day?
To be honest, Fireball not only pleased me with its results and met my expectations, but also fulfilled one of the things I hoped to see after the tournament! Thank you, Fireball, for taking a different path!
Now, together with my comrades, we figured out that 9 Angels with healing make it possible to win, even without high magic.
I remember Sage mentioning a similar battle tactic during the BestOfBest tournament. The main thing is to protect the ammunition cart and snipers with a force field. The mana issue can be solved :) Fireball!! - respect - awesome :) I was confused by the cursed ground under 25 Castle. And I abandoned this idea. Now, with my comrades, we easily handle it :) 9 Angels with healing make it work, even without high magic.
I eventually used this tactic, but much later. The problem was that the Dark Fortress kept destroying the cart because I couldn't protect it with a shield. But now I understand that I just needed to fill all the hero's slots. Then the cart would have moved to the corner, and I could have covered it with a field along with the snipers. The question is, you need a lot of mana, and let's see how Fireball solved this problem.

I had 5 archers and 1 angel, but without a specific tactic.
Where did you manage to upgrade to archers? That's an extra 2-3 days, if you're upgrading on the left.
And what troops and their arrangement, and what hero skills did you have before the decisive battle?
I think you can beat the Dungeon level with the first week's units, but my problem was with the time it took.
I had 5 Archmages and 1 Angel, but no strategy.
What are "forces of the first week"?
Did you waste turns upgrading the angels? Because maybe you could have finished it in 6 days?
I had 280 mana. You can have more, but it's not necessary.

Which hero was used to take the VDV surprise? And which hero did you use in the decisive battle?
Only Intelligence (at the time of capturing the resource, Knowledge is 14, then 16 due to boots).
It is theoretically impossible to capture the resource in 6 days. In 7 days, you can try if you rush through vampires, but then you need a tactic. There was no tactic; the Archmage was needed for the first turn. It is difficult to find a hero who would be given Tactics, Wisdom, Earth, Air, etc., so that he would develop well in Knowledge and Attack, but not in Defense, so that he could capture the resource on the first day. And all of this at the same time. Otherwise, it is impossible to defeat the resource in 7 days. As a result, I played as Dess.

It's still a good thing that there isn't a hero with starting infinite ammunition...
