Favorites, to battle! - 8

For the eighth time, we will compete for our favorite castle, prove its strength, delight viewers with interesting games and unconventional combinations. In this tournament, each player immediately chooses a faction that they will play throughout the tournament.
The first such tournament took place in 2008.
Conflux and Necropolis have twice celebrated victory; once, Fortress, Castle, and Rampart were the best.
What will happen now?

I. General questions.
1. Throughout the tournament, each participant plays as their chosen favorite faction.
2. Game version SoD 3.2 (4.0) + HD mod + HW_rules_mod patch. The latest stable version is currently available: as of early December 2015, HD mod 4.0 RC33, HW_rules_mod 1.38.
3. Color in bracket tables – for the initial seeding. Colors change after each SUBJECTIVE restart.
4. The choice of template is made by crossing out one from the list of 9 templates: 2SM4d(3), Balance, skirmish (at 200% difficulty), Jebus cross, Mini-Nostalgia, Diamond, 8mm6a, 6LM10a, and Spider. The player marked with blue in the table starts eliminating a template.
By mutual agreement, it is permissible to play on any other template. This issue must be discussed beforehand with the tournament judges.
5. If there are two identical factions in a match, then the template is chosen from the list: 2SM4d(3), Balance, skirmish (at 200% difficulty), Jebus cross, Mini-Nostalgia, Diamond, 8mm6a, 6LM10a, Spider, mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1.
In this case, players bargain for the right to choose the starting hero. Players take turns (first, the one marked red in the table, then - blue) crossing out one undesirable hero from the full list; then, the players inform each other how much gold they are willing to transfer to their opponent for the right to make the first choice among the remaining heroes. The player who offers the larger amount chooses the hero first and transfers the gold to his opponent.
On the mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1 templates, each player has one subjective restart at 111.
Also, on the mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1 templates, players negotiate over color. The player who offers the larger amount chooses which color he will play as and transfers the gold to his opponent.
6. Standard rules apply.
The default timer is chess clock style, with parameters specified in the rules.
Any changes to the game rules are allowed by mutual agreement of the players, except for changing the Favorite Castle and the Fair Play rule.
Additional rules for templates:
Mini-Nostalgia. The participant marked with blue in the table begins choosing computer opponents' castles. When the color changes, the selection is not repeated; the castles chosen by the player remain his secondary choices.
Diamond. The participant marked red in the table removes an extra (ninth) castle. If the favorite castles are identical, then red first removes one castle, then blue - a second.

II. Organizational questions.
1. This tournament is official and regular.
2. Tournament goals:
- to play as your favorite faction and try to prove its strength,
- to gain valuable experience and improve your gameplay.
3. The tournament is held according to the Rules for organizing, conducting, and participating in tournaments.
4. Players listed on the Blacklist and Penalty Bench are not allowed to participate in the tournament.
5. Tournament hosts and judges: Pit for LM (ICQ: 471401475) and
KobRa_RR (ICQ: 286406830).
If it is impossible to resolve a controversial issue independently, the judges will seek help from the AC.
The host has the right to make any changes to the regulations and rules during the tournament if necessary.
6. For each played match, participants must submit a report and confirmation in this thread, created automatically.
Saves of all matches must be saved until the end of the tournament and presented upon first request by the tournament host or any member of the AC.
7. Information about the progress of the tournament is updated as needed and is located at the beginning of this thread.
8. All games of the tournament go into the seasonal rating. The list of tournament reports is also located at the beginning of this thread.
9. The winner of the tournament and players who took 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded Medals under their avatar:

Award authors: RAPER and ColdRain.

III. Deadlines.
All participants in the tournament must strictly adhere to the announced deadlines:
1. Immediately after the start of the next stage or round, contact your opponents for preliminary arrangements for the games. Agreeing means reaching an agreement after negotiations and discussion. An offer without a response will not be considered an agreement.
2. Any temporary problems (with internet access, travel plans, personal matters) must be reported to the tournament hosts.
3. The preferred time for tournament games is daytime (12-24 Moscow time) on weekends and evening (19-24 Moscow time) on weekdays. If a participant cannot play at this time, the absence of a game result will be interpreted by the host in favor of his opponent.

Registration - October 25 – November 24, 2015.
Approval of the list of participants - November 25-29, 2015.
Bracket generation - November 30, 2015. The bracket will be generated taking into account the declared faction and the player's skill level based on the results of other tournaments.
Start of the tournament - December 1, 2015.

IV. Regulations.
The regulations will be determined after the end of registration, depending on the number of participants.
A standard format is planned: group stage and Full Double Elimination.

Very interesting game, with a lot of action and adrenaline. Started on the surface next to a Castle with stables and an external drake dwelling behind a horde of fanatics. I decided not to take the last rest, which I regretted the next day. 4 heroes, zero gold. The only road leads to a one-way portal and a swamp village by the Mages. The opponent hired my Goshann + native hero on his first turn. On the second day, he had Expert Necromancy, dove his scout heroes into the one-way portal. One exit leads to a fork, not far from the entrance. From there, roads lead to the computer conflict with the Mages (definitely not an option to go there), and right next to it is an exit to a super treasure zone in the snow, naturally. Up is a grass village, down is a teleport to the center. The other exit is better – into a snow adjacent zone, and right next to the exit there is a path to the purple computer. I rushed Clavius there and on 113 I took the Castle from purple. There I scrounged up some skeleton stacks until the end of the week, a couple of ore for XP, got Expert Earth magic, but no Slow. Also got Armor in the 4th slot. Checked the Griffin Conservatory 3-4; I would have taken the 1-2 right on the spot with 160 skeletons and Mass Shield/Stone Skin. By the end of the week, I managed to scrape together gold for Cavaliers and sent Isra to a second front to clear the main hero's respawn, where I found a lot of gold, another Griffin Conservatory 3-4, a strategic overview of the main area of the Blue player. On 117, Clavius also picked up a Sword +2+2 and Shield +5 – already decent stats. The only problem was I couldn't transport the skeletons back to my main hero because the second entrance to the one-way portal was far away in the snow, needing a 3-4 turn walk. On 121, I built a Mage Guild in the Castle which gave me Slow. I split up to the nearby Well and to the Griffin Conservatory. On 113, a level 3 fell. Near the Castle: Vial +2, Cyclops Dwelling, Minion Naga Bank, Minion Dragon Fly Hive – collected everything, didn't even leave a splitting stack. Got Pathfinding in the theme, had to take it to get back to my main hero, plus my native super treasure zone is in the snow. Meanwhile, Kilgor has already run out into the center, which he announced by appearing from the teleport. Near the exit, he also took the 3rd Rampart from the Pink computer, and the Dungeon from the Orange one. All castles are within a turn's reach from the center, including mine, even without roads. Clavius ran back to my main hero across the snow without roads to the second entrance. I maxed out Alamara the Scholar. The Mage Guild gave me the jackpot – Town Portal! Built a chain so Clavius could dive back to the main hero on 127 and Isra could collect the Dragon Fly Hive and the Griffin Conservatory 3-4 at the respawn. But the opponent blocked the second Castle exit with a scout hero with the Castle army, just in case, because the opponent was already itching right at the entrance to the one-way portal. And then, starting from 127, the hassle and slaughter began, which lasted until the end of the carnage. The opponent dives into the one-way portal before me and lands specifically at my main hero, not at the Castle where the fully armed scout was waiting, and breaks my chain. Luckily, he didn't reach Isra, who was already level 7 with Expert Earth Magic. On my turn, I chase away the insolent scout hero. Clavius gets max Cyclops dwelling. I'm playing without movement boost now because the opponent scouted my positions, and the Veil of Darkness didn't reach the portal exit, with Kyrre and the center right under my nose. I rebuild the chain. On 131, I reteach Town Portal and Frost Ring to Alamara. I split the army into two parts: half the skeletons, Cavaliers, and Lichs go with Clavius to take the Naga Bank and wait for resupply; the Angels, the other half of the skeletons go with Tamika to break the Dragon Fly Hive (also Minion). Then Isra takes the level 3 Griffin Conservatory with Slow without losses. On 132, I recapture the conflict village and rejoin the army. Clavius moves like a turtle because it's very dangerous to boost movement on 1560 movement points without Logistics and Stables. I dive into the center through a horde of Orcs, forgetting to pick up the little Angels. I check the Underground – immediately a fight with Goshann, who has a boosted stack of 5 Centaurs and a Hydra in the 2nd stack. 3 Angels also in the 2nd stack neatly cut the Hydra; the Centaurs fall to Frost Ring. Lucky I didn't rearrange the army. – Goshann + Cloak of the Undead King. On 133, a level 3 Dragon Utopia right next to it for Archangels on KZ, Crown +4+4 and Shield +12 with the loss of 2 Cavaliers. I capture one Pink Rampart already under Blue's control. With all my scout heroes and everything I can, I spread out in the center, and then the hardcore mega-action begins. Kilgor spends almost all of his 30-minute turn timer, deftly using chains and heavily micromanaging in battles, and wipes out all my scout heroes within reach. And then comes my main and key mistake of the game. Instead of going to capture the opponent's castles with a decent advantage, I fall for 3 Dragon Utopias in the Underground near the village, hoping for Air control and a quick capture of the opponent's castles, plus I could dive from my main hero into the Inferno super treasure zone where a piece of the Chalice is visible behind Gold Dragons. I return to gather them back there, leaving the opponent plenty of opportunities for maneuvers. All my attempts to capture castles were thwarted by tough defense and micro/macro control: either a Dragon from the Dungeon that can't be killed runs in, or a scout hero with 100 mana, or with a mega-chain the whole army moves back and forth against Tamika's 2 Angels and meat, with random artifacts. In the end, constantly fighting, I collect all 3 Dragon Utopias (1+3+3), which gave +3, +4 to all stats, another Shield +12, Captain's Hat, Boots of Levitation, Gold Bag, KZ which didn't help much during the game since I already retaught Town Portal to all my secondary heroes in the Mage Guild, and Explosion in Mage Guild level 5. Saved on 135. After Town Portal-ing Clavius into the conflict to refill mana – naturally without the Mage Guild, because I built a Marketplace for the Artifact Merchant to check the next turn. After loading the save in a tired state, I start to play very stupidly. I immediately skip Clavius's turn after splitting up into the Castle for the Well. And instead of casting Town Portal to my main hero and using the already built chain to take the external Dragon dwelling, and checking the swamp corner village with Vidomina, I forget I have Town Portal and run far away after the Well because I had already killed all the splitting stacks near the Castle earlier! Had to run for a chest in the Underground, which gave 15k gold. In short, I basically gifted a turn. On 137, I finally do all my business: the Dragons in the Castle + the external dwelling. All this time we are fiercely fighting with the opponent using scout heroes, in which I am hopelessly falling behind against the Rampart growths and various Red Dragons from the external dwelling, while making a bunch of micro mistakes. I stupidly lose Isra, whom the opponent re-buys. That was hilarious – the immortal Goshann died 3 times during the game. The opponent restored him twice, and only the 3rd time did he come to me (the traitor!). Also taking its toll is the hopelessness of not scouting the air with any of my heroes. In the end, by the end of the week I lose a Rampart. Then more fighting back and forth. On 143, I run back out into the center with a plan to run into the huge Inferno treasure zone for the Chalice and try to get Control there. But the opponent, on his turn, presents himself at the Castle. Like a fool, without even checking, having teleported and refilled mana at the Well, I immediately jump into battle. I didn't upgrade the Dragons or the Skeletons because I barely had enough movement points for the turtle-Clavius even to cover the enemy. If I had checked with the Crystal Ball, I wouldn't have had to run into the Well and would have had enough movement. Confident in my superiority, I attack. There is a Crystal Ball, +2 Speed, +1 HP stats 11-12. Army: 2+2 Pegasi, 30 Centaurs, 14 Angels, 20 Genies, 4 Dwarfs, 30 Grands – no Offense or Defense. I have 20-17, +3 HP, Expert Offense/Defense 17, Power of Lichs +1+1+6, Power of Cavaliers, 1300 Skeletons, 6 Bone Dragons, 5 Angels. The opponent has -1 morale due to Dwarfs in his army against my Skeletons. The Angels with 14 speed would have wiped out one of my stacks, so I immediately went on the attack, killing the Genies first, then started fighting the Angels, who didn't get a single negative morale during the battle. Otherwise, the Skeleton stack could have sent Kyrre to meet her ancestors. In the end, the opponent buys back in with 4 Angels, leaving me with 2 Liches, 2 Cavaliers, and all the Skeletons. Again I saved and continued in a normal state. My turn was again flawed and unwise. On his turn, the opponent, with a raging Kyrre, breaks into a wedge of my scout heroes, mowing them all down. He takes the conflict village through the one-way portal, again landing exactly where needed. I take the village back with a chain in the Underground and finally recapture the Gauntlets, getting a few extra movement points. I split the Skeletons in half and send the other half with Dessa to the Brown computer, who has already built Angels. I lose a leveled-up Tamika with 2 Bags. In exchange, I kill Goshann for the 3rd time! Recaptured and defended the conflict against the computer with 6 Angels and the remaining growth. 500 Skeletons held the defense well, almost without losses. On 211, Goshann finally comes to me. Having received 4 Angels through the Castle with all side effects, I dive with artifacts into the Well, Town Portal to the Necromancy, and spread out in the center already on Angels and other meat. Vido with KZ and 140 mana, Dessa also has the same and a +3 movement bonus. There's nothing left to oppose. I recapture the Pink Rampart and the opponent's main Castle. In the 3rd Rampart, I kill almost all the growth with Dessa using all her mana after buying back. Meanwhile, Kyrre ran into the Inferno treasure zone; Clavius follows him. I take the Chalice there, and another Amulet +3 to all stats nearby. Stats are already 30-25-22-22. On his turn, Kilgor, unable to find Control, capitulates.
Thanks for the game!!

In the first week, I managed to deal with the companions, and the swamp even kindly built some ducks:p I was lucky with the rich treasures. There were a lot of duplicates, but I managed to assemble an alliance:smile02: Both of us had a damage dealer and a flyer, but neither of us found a teleport. The heroes' stats were roughly equal, around 40+. I had a slight advantage in angels, the ducks were almost equal, but I already had monarchs. The opponent stumbled upon a Moon Armageddon spell with 1000+ damage, which significantly thinned out his army, while Shakti, on the other hand, was building up meat from hidden reserves, focusing on growth. The red orb wasn't found, and the opponent had +2 speed on the first turn. As soon as I built the Archmage, I went for the Fortress, and with the alliance and army advantage, it was decided. Thanks for the game!

It turned out to be a very interesting game with a lot of action and adrenaline .......
Thanks for the game!!

The game really turned out to be insane!

On 111 I thought for a long time about whether to take re. The pros were:
a) Tribute b) Gosh c) Respawn of Dragon Fly Hive and external dwelling of wood and elves, though with hellish guard (which I never broke through)
The cons - very, very little gold and a tiny starting army! And still we play.

First week:
on 114 via no-road I reached my double having 6 elves and 36 Centaurs. I was greeted by a cheerful Eleazar with a crossbow, 50 mana + 25 dwarves + 60 centaurs + 7 elves + 5 pegasuses + 3 treants.... My eyes nearly popped out. I had to micro and lure him out of the Citadel. In short, the double was only taken by 117. Left with 6 heroes, no gold at all, absolutely NO gold!! The rogues didn't even get built. The army was in tatters, the tempo was lost completely.

Second week:
From the army I have 23 Grands, some centaurs + 180 Gosh's skeletons.
I collected the first 2 Griffin Conservatories and both level-1 dwellings + 12 dragon utopias!!! No army, but the reds are crawling very close, and there are 5+ angels + a ton of bones + stats are glowing!

Third week:
Took the Tribute + max Griffin Conservatory.
On 132 Clavius with fort-butt burst into my town, I accidentally killed Gosh's man who was supposed to buy back and go to the treasury!
On 133 he saw my Dragon Utopia and ate it, damn it! On the same turn I eat another Dragon Utopia level-3, left a lot of stuff there, ended up with 5 angels + Grands, gave absolutely nothing!!!
Scout hero wars begin, to stabilize the situation I have to come up with some twisted mega chains, changing to zero every day! By the end of the week I manage to drive all the filth out of my territory, but it cost me all my timer, all gold and all resources.

Fourth week.
Perches+boots+fast scout heroes. Managed to collect 14 angels + leftovers.
And on 143 an accident happens, I wanted to take his Castle because several scout heroes under the cover of the main made another attempt to break into my territory!
Clavius is slow, I figured he can't reach me at all, but he had control there, damn it! Namely Town Portal, and on the LAST (the last move, Carl!) move he reaches me. And even in that case FB would have been carried without problems if not for the time trouble with the timer, those sneaky 4 dragon utopias snuck into my army and ruined all my morale! Had to buy back on 4 angels.
Launched another carousel of scout heroes and micro-warriors, and by 147 I managed to leave the opp with 3 towns against my 8.

Fifth week.
Still no control. Went into a huge and final super-treasure via no-road, I can no longer split or quickly transfer armies, and that filth (opp's scout heroes) crawled out of every crack, equipped with artifacts and decent armies with mana close to 100.
Even though I had 7 towns and a furious Kyrre on 214, two boxes on all fire and all water finished me off.

Thanks for the game! There was really a lot of adrenaline!

The elf external dwelling at the Castle and a strategic observatory covering half the enemy's respawn prevented me from taking the rest, even despite blocking the Liches from Conflux. At the end of the first [month/week], I took a mini-Griffin Conservatory far away and killed one computer player. My opponent, meanwhile, was leading in Castles. However, on [day] 121, with a well-planned raid, I killed both computer players and started shaking down Dragon Fly Hives; both treasure zones were swamp, so Pathfinding helped. By the end of the second [month/week], I had almost 30 [units] of Wiv[erns] and 1 Angel. Then I took three mini Dragon Utopias. Useful [artifacts] from the bot[s]: 2 [Oll?], Blackshard [of the Dead Knight?], and Wings [of the Archangel?]. I escaped to the center before my opponent, grabbed the box [of artifacts] there behind the Black [Dragons?] covering the entire 4th floor, then planned to go into the Blacks myself, since my opponent's stack of Arch[ers?] was revealed. But then he left himself exposed. Kyrre barely made it in time.

Thanks for the game!

I don't remember how much I paid for Gosh, but the start was fast. My hero leveled up well. On the first day, I got horses, on the second, I built 5 growth markers, and found "Teleport" and "Explosion" scrolls. On day 127, I took a home utopia and went to attack the opponent through the center. I killed a well-leveled Vidomina while she was moving, but the opponent managed to move his troops away, and it seemed to me that he wouldn't have time to bring them back home. This mistake almost became critical, as I lost a hero with all his troops, who was about to take the opponent's main town. I had to retreat, complained a bit about the boots, scouted my corner treasure, took a phoenix lair, and caught the opponent's main hero moving again – there was no point in continuing after that. Thanks for the game.

I used up all my restarts – the giveaways were weak. And the decisive one looked absolutely terrible at first glance. In the end, I cleared out the nearest Dragon Utopia with Solmyr and Expert Air magic. The Wings in the first Dragon Utopia gave me a lot of hope. Because now there was an opportunity to get to the Book of Air. My opponent had very impressive troops in the early game, but ultimately, time pressure made itself felt. Thanks for the game.

I used all the resets – the rewards were weak. And the final one – it looked absolutely terrible.

Strange distribution, why not along the way?

It's strange that they didn't go directly there. Why didn't they take the shortest route?

The Grail is available from the first turn; what's the point of going through a one-way path?
