What do they do...
well, they do a lot of things... basically, they are ordinary people. :)
Tolkienism is just a fun hobby... I'm very happy for people who are seriously passionate about something.
There was a time when I used to go to "gaming conventions"... I remember it with pleasure...

Actually, their official name is role-players. They organize not only battles from "The Lord of the Rings." I have a friend who is a role-player, and he told me how they reconstructed the Battle of Kulikovo. I liked it so much that I almost became one of them! But somehow, it didn't work out.

No, there are Tolkien enthusiasts, and there are Tolkien scholars. They are different things.

And who are these "tolkenutyye" people?

These are the guys who run around with wooden swords, not just in games but also in the city, shouting "For Honduras," and at night, under their pillows, they whisper "my beauty...":D

By the way, reenactors get really offended when they are called "role-players"... we have a small festival in our city every year :) Reenactors come from everywhere...

I'm not familiar with re-enactors, but they can't be role-players by default. In my opinion, role-players are more interesting.

As far as I remember, re-enactors are those who recreate real historical events, role-players are those who play field or "indoor" RPGs, and Tolkien fans are a very diverse group. Some simply study Tolkien in detail, some run RPGs based on his works, and some have gone completely overboard. For example, in the early 90s, at some gathering near a university, an elderly professor came out and asked them to be quiet. In response, one of them said: "How dare you, mortal, speak to an Elven prince like that?" They were naturally kicked out. They also considered Vysotsky to be the embodiment of Boromir. So, any hobby is good as long as you don't live in it.

Have you played Cossacks 2? Have you seen those videos that are in the intro and during the game? Get to know them, these are reenactors from St. Petersburg. :)

They were specifically invited to act as Cossacks:D

Then role-players are just Orcs and Footmen from the Warcraft intro sequences!

I heard, though I don't know if it's true, that Tolkien fans are disliked by football fans! They almost always start fights!
