Posts from Are there people who don't have .NET 3.5 installed?
I'm planning to write a utility in C# for Heroes 5 – a battle simulator and a database for creatures, heroes, and skills. Of course, forcing people to download frameworks would be cruel, but I'd like to use some features from the latest versions.
This leads to the following question: are there people who don't have the latest versions of .NET (3.5, 4.0, 4.5) installed? Which version should I target?
Please don't suggest the option "forget about everything and write it in Delphi" =-)
Batman is a murderer no less than the Joker, for all the lives the Joker took that Batman could've saved by killing him. Elizer Yudkovsky, "HP and the Methods of Rationality". Мой ник транслитерируется по-разному, но я предпочитаю варианты Оот и Ооот.
Does anyone even need this? It’s easier to create a map and test it as many times as you want.
Смысла нет, но вы держитесь там. Удачи, здоровья, хорошего настроения! И пока в кармане пачка милкиуэйев - значит все не так уж плохо на сегодняшний день

At the very least, I need this to calculate how many losses I'll have during a multiplayer game if I encounter 50 succubi with 120 warriors, having 5 defense, 2 attack, advanced Defense, and Dodge. Not everyone can do these calculations in their head =-)

I would suggest that it would actually be simpler. No, let's put it this way. I'm interested in such a program – that's one thing. The framework is already installed (because of Paint.NET) – that's another. But, OUGHT... What specific functions from the framework do you need? Let's be honest, this is a simple program for calculations; it doesn't really need anything special. If you really wanted to, you could even make it a console application. And for a small program, would someone really have to install a framework? That's just not practical. Although, it depends on what exactly you want to do, of course, but it's probably just related to the interface, which is very easy to create in Borland products anyway, and the program remains lightweight.

Yes, there are, and they are doing perfectly fine without framework 3.5. I haven't needed anything beyond framework 2.0. I've installed higher versions a couple of times, but then I uninstalled them because they weren't needed. The utilities that I installed them for turned out to be useless and unnecessary. So, draw your own conclusions... However, I'm not a programmer.

I was interested in the layoutpanel components, which are not available in 2.0, but which would be very helpful in creating the interface.
They exist, and they exist very well, and they work perfectly well without the 3.5 framework.
Well, if that's the case, I'll write in 2.0 or Delphi =-)

"Are there people who don't have the latest versions of .NET installed?" - IMHO, there are no more than 1% of such people. Don't take these weirdos into account!
