Dragons are good, but phoenixes can be resurrected, and archangels can resurrect someone else. ;)

In Heroes of Might and Magic III, if you don't use overpowered creatures like Azure Dragons and other mutant dragons, this is the strongest monster. Hobo listed the monster stats but forgot to calculate the amusing ability of this creature, which reduces its target's defense by 80%. So, in a 1v1 fight, it will defeat everyone. But if you start considering that the dragon is immune to magic, the angel revives, the titan shoots, etc., then it depends on personal preference :-)

No way! IMHO, the Black Dragon is the best! Your archangels, phoenixes, and monsters can be weakened, blinded, paralyzed, or destroyed with magic. The Black Dragon will survive even the apocalypse. + The Black Dragon attacks 2 targets standing next to each other. + Does this ability of the monster act like magic? If so, it doesn't affect the Black Dragon. As for the castle, my choice is Dungeon!

try battling a monster against an archangel one-on-one, and you'll see that the monster almost always wins. That difference of 2 in stats and the 50 HP buffer probably make the difference ;-)

Yes, in a one-on-one fight, the monster is stronger, but the Archmage is faster and can move away, attack, and move away again (Archmages raise morale, which means they can move repeatedly), while the monster is slow and won't be able to reach the Archmage.
