Exactly. And that's bad because the job market is only interested in what it needs right now, something that can generate income in a year or two. What about science? For example, the search for the Higgs boson is very expensive and requires a lot of resources, but it is in such experiments that the probability of discovering something truly interesting is highest, something that could completely change our lives in decades (but not sooner!).
