I finally got around to watching the movie Hide and Seek (2005). As I expected, it wasn't anything particularly special, just a psychological thriller, and not even a very good one. As one magazine told me, there's this guy, Brian Paulin, and he creates the most awful, most disgusting movies imaginable. And his masterpiece is Fetus.
So I watched it. And what? Even Saw looks better. And here, I see bad acting (all of them, without exception - his shaggy-haired friends), including the main role, unskillfully played by Brian himself, and all these horrors didn't really affect me. They take premature babies out of their mother's stomach with a knife and cut off their heads, they rape corpses, they peel the skin off people, and so what? If we talk about Saw, I only watched one part of it a couple of years ago, and I remember the scene at the beginning - a girl is sawed in half horizontally while lying face down. That looked somehow scarier and more interesting.
Brian doesn't use special effects; he creates all the dismemberment with his hands, like in old horror movies. It turns out pretty well, in principle, but sometimes it looks a bit silly.
I'd rather watch a horror movie by Peter Jackson.

Yesterday's "Hide and Seek" was scarier. And definitely much more engaging. However, I might just not like bloody horror as a genre; I haven't watched many of them, so I can't say for sure.

For a month or two, I was checking stores for a version of "The Avengers" that doesn't have that annoying letterboxing effect; finally, a DVD rip appeared. It's pretty boring, even the torrent version was more interesting. I was told that Downey is trying to carry the film on his shoulders, but I didn't like him either, maybe because he doesn't have enough screen time.

Downey gets lost in the mess that the film is. Too much pretentiousness for every minute of the movie. It doesn't even work as mindless entertainment.
Although, I also waited a long time for a DVD or Blu-ray rip. Well, never mind, it's worth watching once on the computer.

The Avengers
I was advised not to watch it, but I went ahead and did. I wouldn't say it's that bad; it's an action movie, a solid three out of five. Just the kind of movie to make a good profit by capitalizing on the hopes of comic book fans.

I recently watched the new Doctor Who. I really liked the episodes with the Ninth and Tenth Doctors; the episodes with the Eleventh Doctor impressed me less. It's an entertaining series, sometimes funny, and the setting is often very interesting. The characters are likeable enough to make you care about them (though not all of them, especially in the episodes with the Eleventh Doctor). There's plenty of science fiction and space exploration, and a fluffy arctic fox visits regularly. The main character and most of his companions are charming, so overall, it's exactly as the Doctor would have it.

Men in Black 3 is a decent movie.

By the way, it's the only action movie released in the last few years that is actually good. I recommend it.

Dad is constantly watching some new, awful movie. Twice every three weeks, the family watches some boring film, almost always one that was released in the last year and a half. Although some of them are good, but they aren't action movies. Well, there was something among the action movies that I liked in some individual moments. It's watchable during dinner, but only once, and then you completely forget about these movies. Which is what I did.

There was one original new movie, I think it was called "The Artist." A modern silent film. It's pretty cool, even though it doesn't have much of a plot (something about love), but it's worth watching because it's quite original. There was also some kind of science fiction movie. For example, a movie about Snow White. No, not that one, the one that's just a stupid fantasy hack-and-slash that's playing in every movie theater in the world, but another one, I think it was called "Revenge of the Dwarfs." It's a very good movie, a simple comedic fantasy, but not stupid, not illogical, everything is perfect in that regard. It's nice to watch a movie when you have nothing to criticize.
