Simply making a warrior from the Fortress faction is nonsense because half of the stats go into spellcasting, and you can't ignore it. Therefore, we can talk about battle mages (or warrior-mages). And in this case, Erin is no worse. The fact that she has chaos is a plus; it gives you a place to put your spellcasting points, and then you can choose skills to your liking for the warrior. Sorgalla has a very useful Battle Frenzy ability for a warrior, and his special ability significantly enhances him (at high levels, the damage from the bite is higher than from a simple attack, if I'm not mistaken).

The warlock can have an attack stat that exceeds his magic power, so if the game drags on and you realize that you won't get far with just Chaos magic, you have to pay attention to the attack stat as well, and no one is saying to ignore magic altogether. It doesn't matter what you call the hero (warrior, warrior-mage, or something else); it's clear that one school of magic will be developed anyway. When I say warrior-TE, I mean that instead of magical skills (sorcery, a second school of magic), combat skills will be taken (leadership, defense, whatever you get).

The longer the game lasts, the less useful Chaos magic becomes, although it is relevant for the dark knight at any stage of the game, except perhaps in the very late game. And in order for Sorgall's ability to work, you first have to reach the target, survive the counterattack and subsequent attacks from units, and attack those who are standing next to the riders. However, the opponent does not arrange his formation to make it so convenient, and the primary targets may be on the opposite end of the field from the riders.
