Chapter 3. The Paths of Her Synapses
No more than thirty minutes had passed since Mona left when
Henri appeared. There was something... unnatural about him, and he seemed agitated. He said it was urgent, so I let him in. The question of how he even knew where I lived came to me much later – Mona's words kept replaying in my head. They put me on edge. But what did I have to fear? Did this mean that, for the first time in many months, I didn’t want to die?
The click of a weapon being uncocked sounded like a bell toll.
-Sorry, Max, but you've become too dangerous,- I heard behind me.
"No, I don't want to die."With all my strength, I pushed myself forward and slightly to the right, trying to dodge and get into another room. A shot rang out. A bullet mercilessly hit my left shoulder, accelerating my fall into the room. I collapsed, grabbed my pistol, and started shooting. Just firing blindly through the wall. On the other side, there was a cry, and then I heard him fall.
A couple of minutes later, with great difficulty, I finally got up. I looked at his dead body, shook my head, and limped over to the medicine cabinet. I took out some painkillers, swallowed the white pills quickly. Then I picked up a bottle of "Chacha" from the table and took three large gulps. And again, I fell asleep.
Closer to morning, I decided to visit
Arandor, but my attention was drawn to a strange old man lurking near the house. I wanted to catch him and question him, but as soon as he saw me, he immediately disappeared.
Another person was put on the wanted list. This time it was about
