Posts from 1st annual offline tournament "Best Of The Best"
Well, I haven't played for three years either, and Sage says he hasn't played Heroes III for two years. That's why I'm not reacting too strongly and I'm also asking for save files. I've already downloaded them from Sage - it's just interesting to look at everything. And have you seen what save files I'm asking the leader for? Why aren't you supporting that? They should also be interesting.
So, it means you were playing very well before that. It's like riding a bike - if you know how, you won't forget! ;) And regarding the save files - I support that. Of course. I'm interested in everything, that's for sure. The holidays are still ahead - I'll try to repeat it. Maybe I'll even play better myself later.
By the way, here's another advantage of SOD over TE – the slow effect is applied at level 1. In my case, it was at level 2, so I couldn't use it in this battle...
Well, that's a real disadvantage in this battle – you definitely need to play with SOD. And I didn't even know about these differences. I was lucky I had SOD :)
Well, this battle is just crazy - you absolutely have to play on SoD then. I didn't even know about such differences. Lucky that I had SoD :)
Exactly. Like I said - I lost a lot of things because of TE. Anyway, I'm urgently looking for a SoD for myself. :D Although in the battle with the "gift" I had that same wild number of gargoyles joining me - it was them specifically that wiped everyone out. So yeah, basically.

I read in the leader' same description that he even started training a fighter with literacy on the first week. At that time, I wasn't even thinking about it. But when I took the SURPRISE from VDV - I realized I'd messed up. And you know who bailed me out - YOU :D I was tinkering around with load-save, trying to get either RD in the nurseries or something else, and glancing at the tavern. Man, how happy I was to see you there! You taught a bunch of my heroes how to jump between towns. Here's a plus for you :)
I read in the description that the leader started training a unit with literacy skills as early as the first week. At that time, I hadn't even thought about it. But when I got the SURPRISE from VDV, I realized I had made a mistake. And you know who saved me – YOU :D I was messing around with load-save, trying to either breed Rangers or something else, and I was also checking the tavern. And I was so happy to see you there! You trained a bunch of my heroes to jump between cities. Here's a little bonus for you :)
By the way, another drawback of the Tower (something in this tournament with the Tower has only drawbacks... :( ) is that when hiring a hero with a specialization in 4th-level spells, the hero himself doesn't have that spell in his spellbook! That's the problem... it's frustrating, you know :( But the idea of a hero with regeneration and literacy also came to my mind... Because without regeneration, it wasn't always easy at the beginning. And later, of course, a portal for all heroes wouldn't hurt... BUT my main hero was only one, so I didn't really suffer because of it.
And thank you for the bonus :D :D By the way, I killed myself with the very first enemy hero ;)

But then, when I got the SURPRISE from VDV, I realized I had made a mistake. And you know who saved me? To be honest, I don't use DIGGERS or CHEAT CODES; I've talked about this many times on various internet forums. I'm old-school; I don't like that kind of gameplay, and maybe that's a disadvantage...
Unless it's with the map editor... :D :smile13:
Although, I knew that I should have dug up a hero with the METEOR magic skill instead of RESURRECTION; then the Wizards would have fallen on the first week! Also, I didn't train anyone in Pathfinding, because I didn't dig up a hero with literacy skills, and I don't regret it. If I had taken first place, there would have been a lot of unhappy people :)
P.S. If you see TOKHA and Radika, tell them that the final results of the tournament depend on how quickly they provide descriptions (or saves). Thank you in advance. I will only be available on January 8th; I'm leaving with my wife to visit relatives!
By the way, I killed myself first, among all the enemy heroes ;)
And you took a long time to defeat – if I had known about your "hero-digging" beforehand, I would have killed you right away :) But I would have resurrected you anyway :p

No, no, VDV, don't put cheat codes and "hero-digging" in the same category – they are different things.VDV_forever;59282
Although I knew that I should have dug up a hero with the "Meteor Shower" spell instead of "Resurrection"; then the Wizards would have fallen on the first week! Also, I didn't train anyone in "Grand Power" because I didn't dig up a hero with the "Intelligence" skill, and I don't regret it. If I had taken first place, many people would have been unhappy :)
But maybe even now 20 people are unhappy that you took third place, but who cares if you won fairly? So don't give up on your desire to take first place, and for that, you really need to use the editor and the "hero-digger"! There's even a hero with "Meteor Shower" – wow! I need to go back to AmberSolera's documentation, but this time, I'll try to study the characteristics of all the heroes – it might come in handy someday :)
I'd like to add to the requests to the leader to upload saves before the corresponding battles. We can try to beat these battles and exchange opinions and achievements.
So, I've already joined and requested a battle against the wizards; it's interesting to see what army he used. The victories in his other battles are quite obvious, at least for me. And I've already played the battle against the efreets with approximate parameters, without morale and luck, and as a result, I lost a couple of dozen more gargoyles.
I saw this, but the difficulty lies in planning the battles. For myself, I've taken from the description that the main thing is to find a hero with the Resurrection magic in the first week.

Well, Grandpa Mosaic, as always, is in his element :) It would be better to be more constructive and at least decide which saves would be interesting to look at. The leader gives us a lot of room for imagination in his description about how the battles are conducted, but what to do if we lack imagination, and most importantly, knowledge? Therefore, on the very first day, we can come up with saves that will be useless to everyone else. I'll try to determine now approximately which saves would be interesting for me to look at. And you either support it or define your own sets. It's clear that the leader simply cannot upload all the saves. So, let's first think about which ones are interesting to us. In the worst case, the leader can simply describe some of the battle tactics in more detail for which there will be no saves. Saves BEFORE the battles of interest are good because you can try to conduct the battle yourself from these saves, using the ammunition and troops that the leader had when conducting these battles.
Wow! That's quite constructive :) Then, prepare your package – send your hard drive to the leader – he'll sort everything out for you, just kidding, a CD-R will suffice :) Or, when you say "ALL" save files, do you mean the save files I requested?
No, no, VDV, don't put cheat codes and hero finders in the same category – they are different things.
For me, it's just a waste of time and makes the game uninteresting, but that's just my opinion, and no one has ever been able to convince me otherwise! I play for fun first and foremost! If I don't feel like it, I don't play; that's all there is to it, but I would never spend hours searching for the right heroes or entering codes, etc. That's why, for me, it's all the same!:smile01:
And also, I never replay a map from the beginning; I might replay turns, but not very far back (usually no more than a week. And even that is rare). I just get bored playing the same thing:o But, that's just my opinion... IronAxe;59284
There's even a hero related to the meteorite – wow! I need to go back to AmberSolera's documentation, but this time try to study the characteristics of all the heroes – it might come in handy someday :)
Heh-heh-heh, it's strange that you didn't know! There's a great program about all the heroes (it shows all the information about them!). That's what you should study, and the hero finder is just...:smile01:

In principle, for such a short playthrough, only 2 saves are really important: the Wizards and the Phoenixes near the portal. The other battles, considering the surrender of Gargoyles, are of course obvious, I agree, but it's still more illustrative to look at the dynamics of the playthrough.

I disagree again. So, I'll learn about all the heroes and what they have, but then what? Knowing that a certain hero is allowed on the map, do I have the right to use load/save to find him? The answer is obvious – I do! And can I use the "digging" tool while doing that? The same applies – it's allowed. But do I have the right to use cheat codes during a clean playthrough? No. What's the conclusion? Cheat codes and "digging" are different things. The only thing I agree with you on is that all this "digging," load/saving, and replaying turns is tedious and uninteresting, but it can greatly affect the result in offline play. On this map, I replayed it several times, and I only rewound by one day at most. I replayed battles for a long time, which is also not ideal, but it's more interesting than repeatedly using load/save to "dig" something up. But after scouting the map and if I know exactly who I will especially need, and this will greatly reduce the time it takes to complete the game, then yes, I might spend a couple of days "digging" :) The problem is that I didn't know that :) Grab the "sledgehammer meter" and go for it – that's roughly the tactic I used for my first two weeks
